Recent Finds...Giella and Real Techniques

One of Kim Kardashian's makeup artists Mario recommended Eye M Glam by Giella as a highlighter and since my holy grail highlighter from Dior is now discontinued I've been on the hunt. I ordered one for myself and my girlfriend(ordering 1 just didn't make sense with the $25 shipping to Canada).
I also spotted the RT setting brush on Jade's IG, and ordered that from Amazon.

Readers have you tried either of these? Thoughts?

Recent Finds...Old Navy

I wanted this, but it's sold out so I settled for this...
No biggie though, I saved oodles as this was on clearance for $14.99 and it gets the job done!

My Verdict: Praiseworthy. I spotted the J Crew tote on Instagram and immediately set out to get my hands on one, only to find it sold out. Disappointed I let it to go, but not before calling the online # and putting a request in to be notified if it comes back lol.  Weeks later I spotted the Old Navy one on IG and popped by my local store. Luckily I found it and it was on clearance, score!

Finances...

Another one from the archives...as I said in my last post, I like to keep this blog light and therefore try to steer clear of serious topics. However, these guidelines have helped my friends so I'd thought I'd share with the world. And if it can help at least one person, then I'm a happy camper:D

Warning heavy reading post...

Recently I had dinner with previous co-workers and a topic we came upon was getting your finances in check. I came upon a post Ellie did on finances and thought I'd share them. Having worked for the financial industry many moons ago I would agree and take the advice into careful consideration...
* Update the link is no longer active :"( it was from 2012! If you do happen to find it out there on the great wide web it was called Master your finances now.

Let's break it down...
Your pay check should look something like this:
40% should be invested into a non risk management portfolio
30% risk portfolio
20% leisure (shopping, your drinking fund etc...)
10% should be your savings...(rainy day fund)
------
100%

Another example-
30 % risk portfolio
30 % non risk portfolio
20% leisure
10% savings
10 % Giving to Charity, Community...
------
100%

You get the picture:)

Let's take the savings further by adding; a good savings minimum should be 3 months worth of your need to pay expenses(rent, phone, car insurance etc...)

Really you can save/spend as much as you want...these are just good guidelines...

And if debt is starting to look like your shadow(I wish I could trademark this!) then my advice is to seek professional help from a personal banker/financial service rep. It's free and they can offer advice/re-work your finances. Eg: Consolidation loans, lower interest credit cards, e-savings accounts, credit lines...
* carry CASH! It's so easy to whip out plastic, with cash once you spend it it's gone. Easier to manage when you can see all you have in front of you.

Good luck with beating that DEBT!

* have you watched Confessions of a Shopaholic. Cute movie, love Isla Fisher!

TOMS Shoes...

Another one from the archives...to the tune of 2012 yikes!

I ordered the Black Canvas Youth in 3Y
and the Navy Rope in 5W
The Youth size 3Y are slightly larger than the Woman`s 5.

My Verdict: Praiseworthy. I've recently purchased TOMS shoes, I ordered them on Friday and Tuesday they arrived. Comes with box and dust bag and TOMS sticker. I'm excited to try them out and will give you an update soon..
I'm extremely happy that I am able to give 2 people out there shoes for where ever their feet will take them:)

About TOMS; "With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One."

* Update I've worn them with pleasure, super comfortable, affordable and it feels good knowing someone else is enjoying them like I have.

Goal Setting...

This post has been sitting in my archives for the longest time and it's not my usual banter but I wanted to share it nonetheless...

An article I ran by in the New York Post piqued my interest and I thought I'd share...(the article has gone MIA since originally reading it. If you find it let me know!)
However, I did find other articles while searching that run along the same lines...
Michael Hyatt article on goal setting

article from Forbes

another Forbes

huffington post

And here's the rundown:

1 Write them down
At the beginning of each year I write down my goals; short term 6 mths, 1 year and 5 years(these I revisit and see if they are still measurable but don't necessarily re-write them for the 1-5 yr)

2 Keep them few
Some goals I right down are personal(fitness, health related) shopping (wish lists, vacations).
e.g: Vacations - I set a goal of at least 3 trips/destinations each year.

3 Keep them SMART
Specific
Measurable
Actionable
Realistic
Time-bound

4 Review them frequently
Here's where I review them before the due date.
e.g : Shopping - I try to purge my closet every season and for my 6 month shopping wish list I include items I'd like to replace or things that have been on them forever (Hermes Collier de Chien Bracelet! These are like the unicorns for Hermes, actually Birkin's and Kelly's fall among unicorn status too. Scratch that, many pieces are unicorns from there lol.)
* Update Hermes CDC - while browsing online one night I actually saw one pop up. I immediately called 2 of my gf's to have them purchase one and I snapped up the one online. Merely minutes after I called them it was sold out! Lucky me received the bracelet a week later, however after waiting 2 years on the wish list and not being able to try it on, I had no idea what to expect. Sad to say it didn't look good on me:( Good news is my gf ended up getting it. Still super happy I was able to cross another wish list item off the list.
As mentioned Hermes Collier De Chien Black with Gold Hardware
The bracelet looks too overpowering on my wrist...not to mention it's heavier than I expected!

The NYP article also gave survey stats for people who goal set compared to people who didn't. The results mention those who set goals are more successful!

Readers what are your goals this year? and years to come?

Nail Polish Collection...

What I consider to by my Holy Grails...will continue to repurchase (except the Chanel May)
Opi Big Apple Red (I use this for hands and feet)
Essie Limited Addiction (I use this for hands and feet)
Essie Mademoiselle (I use this for hands only)
Essie Cute as a Button (I use this for feet only)

I'm drawn to pinks for the cheerfulness and prefer reds when I want to feel sexy and sassy. My go to colors are Essie Cute as a button and Essie Limited Addiction.
I love a baby pink for everyday, but have yet to find the Holy Grail. Opaque but still light enough to not look milky.

Spa Ritual Lacquer Lock Basecoat (found this recently at Winners)

Product Highlight: Spa Ritual
Had the opportunity to use this line during school and love the philosophy behind the line. Color range is huge and each has a meaning.

From their site;
"Our nail lacquers and nail care essentials are vegan and formulated without DBP, toluene, formaldehyde and formaldehyde resin."

Readers, have you tried Spa Ritual products? Any favourites? Also if you have any favourite Holy Grail pink/nude polish you can't live without please share!
